Anna University Institutes and Centers - Admission Process

Anna University is ranked 6th among the best universities in India. With history of 220 years the university is one of the oldest technical universities in the world. The University was formerly called as Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT) and is located in Chennai, Guindy. 

On 4th September 1978 the university was given a status of unitary university and renamed as ‘Anna University’. It was given the name after C.N.Annadurai. Later in 2001 it became an affiliating University by absorbing more than 250 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu State.

Later after 2007 Anna University was split into six universities namely :

Anna University, Chennai
Anna University, Chennai-Taramani Campus
Anna University Chennai-Regional Office, Tiruchirapalli
Anna University Chennai-Regional Office, Coimbatore
Anna University Chennai-Regional Office, Tirunelveli
Anna University Chennai-Regional Office, Madurai

Later in the year 2011 the universities were merged back and turned again into a single affiliating university for engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu state from August 1st 2012. 

Admission Procedure :

Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE) conducted by Anna University for admission of students into the professional courses was abolished in 2006. From the year 2007-2008 admissions were done into engineering colleges based on the plus two marks obtained by the student and their caster.

Anna University abolished CET with aim of providing equal opportunities for both urban students and rural students. The main campus extends over 200 acres by adjoining the Adyar River and Raj Bhavan.
