This university was established by nationalist Muslim leaders in 1920. Its campus is located in South Delhi. The university provides undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate courses. Jamia Millia Islamia, an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920 became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. In Arabic language, Jamia means 'University', and Millia means 'Community'.

The narrative of its development from a little organization in the preindependence India to a focal college spotted in New Delhi—offering coordinated instruction from nursery to research in specific territories is an adventure of commitment, conviction and vision of an individuals who conflicted with all chances and saw it developing orderly. Its picturesque cricket ground (prevalently known as the Bhopal Ground ) has facilitated Ranji Trophy matches and a ladies' cricket test match. 

Other than its seven employees, the Jamia has focuses of learning and exploration, in the same way as the Mass Correspondence Examination Center (MCRC), Staff of Designing & Innovation, Habitat for Hypothetical Physical science and the Institute of Third World Studies (ATWS). The Jamia offers undergrad and postgraduate data and innovation courses.

Secured in 1985 with the bureaus of Common, Mechanical and Electrical Building divisions. It has included the bureaus of Gadgets and Correspondence Designing, Division of Connected Science and Humanities (1996) and has six building divisions Connected Sciences & Humanities, Structural Building, Electrical Building, Hardware & Correspondences, Mechanical Building, PC Building and a College Polytechnic. These divisions likewise lead numerous tasks supported different offices. The staff offers customary courses and proceeding with projects. 

The College Polytechnic additionally falls under the domain of the Staff of Designing and Innovation. The College Polytechnic offers Recognition in Building projects in Common, Hardware, Electrical, Mechanical and PC Designing in both standard and low maintenance modes.
