Strayer University is an United States-based private, for-benefit higher education organization. The college/ university selects around 40,000 students/ candidates through its online learning prgrams, and at 80 campuses locates in 24 U.S. states.

History

Dr. Siebert Irving Strayer established Strayer's Business College in Baltimore, Maryland in 1892. Strayer university established the school/college to teach business abilities to farm workers, including shorthand, typing and accounting. In its first decade of operations, enrollment at the school progressively expanded, attracting students from different states, and in 1904 Strayer opened an extension of the school in Washington, D.C

Enrollment further extended as demand for trained accountants became after the section of the Revenue Act of 1913 and World War I increased the requirement for government assistants with office skills.[4] During the 1930s, the school was approved to allow university degrees in accountancy by Washington, D.C's. 

 The school established Strayer Junior College in 1959, when it was given the privilege to present two-year degrees and in 1969, the college received the accreditation expected to allow four-year Bachelor of Arts degrees and was renamed Strayer College.

Recent history as Strayer University

In 1998, Strayer College was assumed/ granted college /university status by the District of Columbia Education Licensure Commission and got to be Strayer University, an increased interest for higher educations among working adults prompted Strayer's continued development during the early and mid-2000s, creating its first campus areas outside of Maryland.

Virginia and the District of Columbia, in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Florida. According to the University's site, Strayer University now works extra campus in Delaware, New Jersey, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Utah, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota

In December 2011, the college/university gained the Jack Welch Management Institute from Chancellor University for about $7 million. The organization offers a completely online Executive MBA program, and in addition certificate programs.

In October 2013, the college started a major change in its physical operations by declaring the end of its 20 Midwest campus locations. Strayer reported total enlistments dropped 17 percent, while new enlistments dropped 23 percent. All students currently enrolled in projects in the Midwest will have the capacity to proceed with their training through Strayer's online just program offerings

More than half of the candidates take the majority of their courses on the online, and the whole bachelor's and master's degree projects can be finished via the Internet. As of February 2013, of the 48,000 aggregate students, roughly 29,000 took 100 percent of their courses online. Students can also take a combination of online and campus based courses.

Campuses

The university's headquarters are in Herndon, Virginia with campus location principally in the eastern, southern and Midwestern U.S. The university has 80 campuses in both cities and rural areas found in 24 U.S. states.

Academics

The university concentrates on giving advanced education to working adult students and its class timetables and campus locations are intended to be available for this group. The courses offered by the college are practical and business-focused, including courses in business organization and information technology.

Admissions

The admissions requirement for undergraduate degree programs at Strayer University is a secondary school certificate or its equivalent. For graduate degrees other than the Executive MBA, admissions requirements include a bachelor degree from an approved college/ university. 

Graduate students must meet at least one of the following criteria: a min of 2.75 undergrad grade point of average during junior and senior years  of the degree; a base score of 450 on the Graduate Management Admission Test; a base score of 1,000 on the Graduate Management Examination; or demonstration that they are of "graduate potential". Admissions necessities for the Executive MBA project include min of 3.0 undergrad evaluation point average from an accredited university.

Faculty and students

In 2012, an United States Senate panel reported that, starting 2010, 83 percent of Strayer's 2,471 employees were utilized part-time. Strayer's faculty are not needed to do research but are encouraged to concentrate on teaching. 

Strayer University's total number of students is approximately 40,000. According to the college, 66% of Strayer's students are women and over half are African American or Hispanic. Since the early 2000s, Strayer University has had a high proportion of minority students. The school has had a greater number of women students than men since the late 1990s. The normal time of students at the school is more or less 33, and the majority work full-time. Many students get money related support from central government monetary help projects or instruction aid projects worked by the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Division of Veterans Affairs; U.S. central government sources represented 84.9% of Strayer's 2010 income. 

Moreover, around one-quarter of students have educational cost support from their employers. In 2010 the U.S. Branch of Education, reported that the reimbursement rate of government understudy credits at Strayer University was 25%. Strayer asserted its credit reimbursement rate to be 55%.
