English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU)
The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) which is Central Institute of English and Foreign languages previously is a central university in India. Its main campus is situated in Hyderabad and campuses are located at Lucknow, shilling and Maalpuram.
Establishment Details :
The University was established by Indian government in the year 1958 as the Central Institute of English. Later in 1972 it was expanded and teaching of foreign languages was included in it.
Slowly the name changed to Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages before giving the central university status in the year 2006. Slowly it was renamed as English and Foreign Languages University.
EFLU rotates around the English study and foreign languages. The University is working with the aim of improving language teaching standards in India. It is the only university in India which concentrates on teaching and learning of foreign languages.
University offers academic programs in English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, Turkish, Italian, Chinese, Korean and Hindi
EFLU is the first in the country to start a cultural studies course by creating an M.A in the subject.
EFLU has four campuses namely Hyderabad campus, Malappuram, Lunknow Campus, Shillong Campus. Hyderabad campus is the oldest campus and head quarter of the University campuses.
The University is working with an idea of opening new campuses to reach the students who live out of the metropolitan cities and who don’t have proper access to higher education.
Most of the Indians students have been underprivileged of English and foreign languages and suffer to match with those educated people in public/convent schools. The university is setting up plans to focus on such people in near future by setting up universities within their reach.
