IIIT-Bangalore is advanced by the administration of Karnataka and the IT business. IIIT-B is overseen by a Representing Body with S Gopalakrishnan (Kris), official co-director, Infosys Ltd., as the administrator. IIIT-B was initiated on 15 September 1999 as the Indian Organization of Data Innovation, with its grounds at Universal Tech Park (ITPL). The establishment worked at ITPL for the initial four years. In August 2003, IIIT-B moved to its available grounds in Hardware City.

IIIT-B was established in the wake of taking motivation from other settled Organizations of National Significance (INI) in India.

At first, the organization offered post graduate confirmations in Data Innovation. After being allowed esteemed to-be college status in January 2005, the organization started presenting upon understudies the level of Expert of Innovation (M.Tech.). The name of the organization was changed to Global Foundation of Data Innovation before turning into a college (in 2004).

The foundation for IIIT-B's completely wired grounds comprises of a fast fiber-optic spine associated with the inward system through a top of the line gigabit Ethernet switch. Devoted system supplies incorporates printers, scanners, and other gear.

Integration in the grounds is made at two levels. Initially, the neighborhood intranet executes a "virtual classroom," where all the visual material, for example, presentation slides utilized by educators as a part of class, are made accessible electronically to understudies. All assignments and ventures are reported and submitted on the web.
